Earthquake (Sundanese Folklore)

It is said that the earth is on the tip of a cow’s horn. The cow was standing upon a very large whale. For hundreds of years, the cow supported the Earth, and the whale supported the cow. Sometimes, the whale felt tired and bored supporting the cow; at times it wanted to throw the cow off its back. However, the whale always remembered that on the tip of cow’s horn rests the Earth where humans dwell.
The whale wanted to trip the cow, taking the millions of humans living on the Earth on the tip of the cow’s horn, but the whale was terrified of the gods’ wrath. Should the whale felt cramps, it would ask the cow, “Dear Cow, are humans still on Earth?”
The cow, if being asked the question, would shake its horn to check whether there humans still dwell on Earth. If the Earth shook, the humans on it would beat drums and make loud noises and shout, “Yes! Yes! Yes! We are still on Earth.” The noises would tell the cow that humans were still on Earth.
